Plain and Simple Talk
Throughout my 40 years in the frozen dessert business, I have had the pleasure of meeting customers from all over the world. I have met or spoken with customers from every state and many countries. As a previous store owner who talked with customers over the counter, to an owner of a distribution company who has carried cases of yogurt into a store that is out of product, an owner of a food service brokerage company at a trade show, and now a manufacturer who has stopped a production line to fill an order for a customer out of product, I have learned many valuable lessons from our customers.
The one thing that customers want to know is, “how can you solve my problem?”
Desert “Cool” Foods, Inc., was started to meet the needs of customers who wanted to be treated better. They wanted corporate efficiency with a “personal” touch. They wanted someone they could actually speak with when they needed something – not a voicemail system with twelve options which ends with “someone will get back to you.”
I decided we would be a different type of company. I went directly to shop owners, distributors, and start-up businesses of all types in our industry and asked them “what do you want from a company you do business with?” The overwhelming response: “Plain and simple, whether we have a problem that needs to be solved or an important question about our business, we want to speak with someone who has answers, can solve my problem, and make decisions.”
